• 1)Recent scientific studies of Wild Mountain Forest Pygmy strawberries
( often incorrectly called Alpine ) have revealed sensational results:
these are " Living Fossils ", with their genetic information so pristine that it proved to be practically unchanged since Stone Age, when humans are believed to have started to eat them.
This means that we have the opportunity to savour exactly the same flavour, shape, texture and aroma as was enjoyed by the first human who discovered them !
  • 2) It is a common misconception to consider all  small varieties of strawberries to be identical.    To begin with, there is a strain of small and somewhat better-tasting than standard market varieties commercial mini strawberries, which have already been bread away from the pristine original quite a lot. They store and transport a lot better, at the expence of flavour authenticity and intensity. These varieties are referred to as "Alpine Strawberries" , whereas terms of "Mountain Woodland Strawberries" (Fragaria Vesca" family) are accepted as more correct to describe the genetically pristine original.
Secondly, Experts believe that different varieties of Mountain
    Forest Strawberries
, even being of the same colour, taste differently.
I would say a gardener should make thir own taste-tests to form thier own opinion.
  • 3) Many of the first commercial varieties of strawberries were bread from the original mountain varieties. However, nowadays thegenetic gap has become HUGE, which is obviously reflected in the taste and nutritional quality.Detailed health information on strawberries is in "HEALTH BENEFITS" section in the e-bay listing.
  • 4) Shelf life of a genetically unchanged, unsprayed, un-nothing wild mountain forest strawberry is 12 HOURS MAXIMUM ! ( It's much the same thing as with natural milk, which  SHOULD go sour within a few days, but it no longer does..)Within this time it should be either consumed fresh or made into preserves.
  • 5) The Native Range of Wild Mountain Forest Strawberry is far from being limited to high Alpine Meadows of Europe, which is another common misconseption. They occur wild throughout Europe, Asia, North America, and temperate parts of South America (Chile) and were favoured by many anscient civilization including the incas!
  • 6) As opposed to standard strawberries, Wild Mountain Forest strawberries do not have any defined fruiting season and are everbearing in no-frost climates or bear over EXTRA-LONG time from early spring to late autumn in colder climates.
  • 7) Yellow and White-fruiting strawberries do NOT attract BIRDS, RABBITS and BLUE-TONGUED LIZARDS (yes, they are sweet-toothed here in Brisbane !;) - which only recognize red colour of berries as food.
